HERAT CITY (SW): Combination of impediments has led to the closure of over 40 schools in Heart province.

Authorities at the provincial directorate of education have said more than 40 schools have been shut down due to insecurity, internal displacements and lack of educators. Thousands of students are said to be deprived of education.

The closed schools are located in Guzara, Gulran, Kulestan, Zinda Jan and Ouba districts of the province.

Abdul Raziq Ahmadi, head of education directorate of Herat, said most of the closed centers are primary schools. “The educators are paid a meager salary, therefore, they are not committed to their job”, added Ahmadi.

Jilani Farhad, provincial governor’s spokesman, confirming the shutting down of the schools, assured efforts are under way to re-open the schools.

Locals of Shindand district of the province have also complained about the same issue. They have said schools are closed in Taliban-controlled areas due to which many children are deprived from getting education.
