Wolesi Jirga echoes with concerns about surging Daesh

26/11/2016

KABUL (SW): Abdul Zaher Qadeer, the deputy speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) claimed on Saturday that the pro-Daesh rebels are pursuing a grand plan to penetrate into each and every district across the country.

Commenting on the surge of this terrorist organization, Qadeer told the house that the rebels have infiltrated at least 200 families in every district of the country and have tasked these families to convince hundreds of more in this regard. He added that the Daesh rebels are aiming to establish a central command in the Nangarhar province. The deputy speaker of the house warned if the government failed to counter the surging Daesh it would overrun the country.

Qadeer told the house he has informed the Ministry of Interior about the militants’ plan to assassinate him at his residence. He said the militants want to target his residence with a suicide attack because local elders gather there to plan anti-militant moves. The deputy speaker called for additional security at his residence in the Jalalabad city.

Taking part in the debate, a number of parliamentarians expressed concerns over the growing clout of Daesh in various parts of the country. Obaidullah Barakzai, a parliamentarian from the Zabul province told the house that the rebels have set-up three training camps in this southern part of the country.

To further assess the threat of Daesh, Naimatullah Ghafari, second deputy of the house formed a 10-member committee to investigate the matter and prepare a report about it.
