KABUL (SW): Ministry of Energy and Water singed the construction contract of Kajaki dam with a Turkish construction company on Saturday in Arg (Presidential Palace).
Officials at the Ministry of Energy and Water stated that with the construction of Kajaki dam, water level in the dam would increase to 1 billion cubic meters and it would bring 1000 hectares of land under irrigation.
Speaking in the occasion, Ali Ahmad Usmani, the minister for Ministry of Energy and Water said that the construction of Kajaki dam would be greatly effective on regional security, provincial development and people’s satisfaction.
Usmani mentioned that Afghanistan needs $ 4-5 billion for reaching to energy independency.
Government officials asked the citizens to support the government in this construction project.
Kajaki dam can generate 151 megavolts of energy and it can also store 2 billion and 34 million cubic meters of water after the second part of the construction work gets over.
