JALALABAD (SW): Residents in eastern province Nangarhar, said that Daesh still has presence in a number of districts in the province despite claims by the government officials on dislodging them from Nangarhar.
It was nearly a month ago that the security officials in Nangarhar claimed that they cleared the province of pro-Daesh rebels.
A number of residents in Jalalabad said that their fear of Daesh grows by each passing day but the government doesn’t pay any attention to it. They urged upon the government to protect them against Daesh.
Ghalib Mujahed, District Chief in Achin, said that Daesh has been dismantled as a group in the district but is active individually.
He said that the only reason why pro-Daesh rebels have chosen Achin district as their base is the vicinity of the district to Khaibar Pashtunkhwa which makes it easy for the group to commute beyond the Durand Line.
Attaullah Khogyani, Spokesman for the governor in Nangarhar, said that security forces have killed thousands of pro Daesh fighters and have damaged their financial resources as well as their training bases.
Anwar Sultani, a security affairs expert, said on this regard that the government’s claims for dismantling Daesh in Nangarhar is true to some extent.
He believes that Daesh has tactically taken a defensive approach so that it transfers all its forces gradually to Kunar province.
He said that 30 percent of Kot, Haska Mina and Achin districts are under the dominant control of pro-Daesh rebels who have usurped residents’ lands and houses.
Nangarhar, an eastern province in the country, is one of the provinces which has witnessed Daesh’s activities. Reports suggest the group’s leader in Nangarhar has fled with his med to Kunar province.
