MAIMANA (SW): The militants have damaged the electricity transmission tower which provided Maimana, Dawlat Abad, Sheren Tagab, Khowaja Sabz Posh and Pashtonkot districts with electricity.
Sayed Abdullah Masoomi, District Chief in Khwaja Sabzposh told Salam Watandar, that the militants, after a failed attempt to capture the district, damaged the electricity transmission tower in Kotal Gorzad and then closed Khaja Zabzposh- Shirin Tagab Highway.
He said that the Taliban attacked on Sarai Qala, Kosa Qala and Kotal Gurzad villages last night but their offensives were thwarted by the security forces. Masoomi added that two militants were killed and two more were injured.
Two days ago, the Taliban sent an email to local officials in Faryab warning that they would damage the electricity transmission tower, if the oil tankers were denied to enter the areas under their control.
Mula Noorulhaq, a Taliban commander in Pashtonkot, who proclaims himself as the district chief in Khaja Mosa district, releasing a statement to the media, said that the government has recently closed the routes through which oil was supplied to them.
They have warned that the government should re-open the routes as soon as possible but the government has ignored their warnings.
Noorul Haq warned if the government did not reopen the routes as soon as possible, they will target the vehicles that pass through roads and will soon destroy all electricity transmission towers.
It is worth mentioning that the militants have adopted this new technique of damaging the transmission towers.
