BEIJING (SW): China has assured Afghanistan about continued support for peace and development.
Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani is on a three-day official trip to China where he is scheduled to hold high-level meetings. Rabbani met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Tuesday. Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, Rabbani thanked the Chinese government for its support for security, development and reconstruction efforts over the past many years.
“We held extensive and fruitful discussions on all dimensions of our partnership and bilateral cooperation especially in regards to China’s continued and constructive role in an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace and reconciliation process”, he said.
Rabbani welcomed and appreciated China’s positive response to Afghanistan’s bid to become a full member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization. “We focused on Afghanistan’s membership in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and discussed Afghanistan’s strategic position in becoming a transit route in the Silk Road Project”, he added.
On his part, Minister Wang Yi said China will support reconstruction in Afghanistan, especially residential building construction, personnel training and livelihood improvement. "Both sides also agreed on bilateral and multilateral cooperation in anti-terrorism to maintain the peace and stability of the two countries as well as the whole region," said Wang.
