PESHAWAR (SW): The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed deadly attack on a university in northern Pakistan on Wednesday that saw at least 22 people dead and more than 50 wounded.

Four gunmen stormed the Bacha Khan University in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkha province and started shooting those in range. This brazen attack was almost identical to a previous attack on Army Public School in Peshawar City on 16 December 2014 that saw over 150 people, mostly children dead. According to Dawn news, the mastermind of this attack, Omar Mansoor, of the TTP claimed the responsibility for the latest attack through a post on his facebook page.

Authorities in Pakistan’s KP province had a tip of the attack and a number of schools in the provincial capital were shut last week as precautionary measures. The attacker however, chose Charsada district some 33 kilometer from Peshawar City, the capital of KP province. At around noon, hours after the attackers stormed the Bacha Khan University, Pakistan Army declared end of the attack with all four attackers dead. Gen. Asim Bajwa, Spokesman for Pakistan Army said the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Army was deployed to neutralize the situation.

Rescue sources have confirmed 22 dead and over 50 wounded. The casualty figure is feared to rise. According to eye witnesses, the four attackers were wearing suicide vests but were killed by security forces' before they could detonate their explosives.

This attack came days after the first anniversary of attack on the Army Public School that led authorities to implement National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorists across the country.

According to the Transparency International, Pakistan has hanged to death over 300 death-row prisoners in line with the NAP and killed more over 200 alleged terrorists in security operations.
