PESHAWAR (SW): A suicide bomber blew himself up near a convoy of security forces in Pakistan’s restive Peshawar City on Tuesday killing at least 11 people.
The attack took place in Peshawar’s Kharkhano Market, which is a gateway to the tribal belt of the country that has been marred by militancy for over a decade now. Officials have confirmed that Nawab Shah, an officer of the local Jamrud Khasadar Force and a local journalist are among the dead.
According to the Dawn News, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Most of the dead include personnel from the Khyber Khasadar Force. "We have received reports that it was a suicide attack but we are yet to confirm this information," said Ismatullah, an administration official.
The attack has been widely condemned in Pakistan.
Pakistan has adopted a comprehensive anti-terrorism plan dubbed as the National Action Plan (NAP) that has seen a total of 2,159 terrorists been killed and 1,724 arrested by the law enforcement agencies since the NAP was launched in January last year.
