Ghani & Trump pledge for strong bilateral ties

KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has underlined the significance of long-term strategic ties between Kabul and Washington in a maiden telephonic conversation with the US President-elect Donald Trump.

Ghani called Trump to facilitate him on the election victory and expressed optimism that ties between the two countries would further improve under his presidency. “Ties between Afghanistan and the U.S. are based on mutual strategic interests of the two nations, and it is hoped that these ties would strengthen and advance under your term of presidency”, Ghani said according a communiqué by the Arg (Presidential Palace).

It added that the Afghan President praised the sacrifices paid by the U.S. soldiers in the fight against terrorism. He also thanked the U.S. government and its people for supporting Afghanistan. Ghani pinned hope that Afghanistan is close to reap the gains of U.S. investment for development and stability in the country. Continuation of these efforts would help enable Afghans to best utilize the enormous wealth of natural resources and establish a vibrant economy; the statement quoted the President saying while talking to Donald Trump.

It added that the U.S. President-elect pronounced Afghanistan’s natural resources worth noticing while assuring assistance from his administration in this regard. Donald Trump acknowledged that Afghanistan has the potential for economic growth, and the country’s natural resources can play key role in it.

The two leaders also shared views about the security affairs. Praising the NATO-led support and train mission, Ghani highlighted the courage and capabilities of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in safeguarding the territorial sovereignty of the land.

Donald Trump pledged that the U.S. would stand alongside the Afghan government and its people. The two leaders also shared invitations for visit to each other’s country.
