KABUL (SW): Impressive performance by cricket and football teams compelled the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday to acknowledge the emerging talent.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Speaker of the house said in his ruling that a delegation comprising of Wolesi Jirga members and government representatives would soon travel to the countries where the national teams would be playing.

Afghanistan’s football team, which is the defending champions of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) will play against India in the final on Sunday January 03, 2015.

Afghanistan has won all of the group matches and has qualified for the final with an impressive goal average.

In the group matches, Afghanistan thrashed Bangladesh 4-0, Bhutan 3-0 and Maldives 4-1. In the semifinal, Afghanistan outclassed Sri Lanka 5-0.

This will be the last presence of Afghanistan in SAFF since the FIFA, football’s governing body has moved the country from South Asia to Central Asia zone where it will have to play against stronger competitors like Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kirghizstan.

In cricket, Afghanistan has maintained the steady growth. In the ongoing One Day International series against the seasoned Zimbabwean squad, Afghanistan has bagged two impressive victories.

With this, Afghanistan has won a total of 49 points and has jumped from 12th to 10th  spot on the International Cricket Council’s rankings. The top 10 slots have always been occupied by full ICC’s members and Afghanistan by defeating Zimbabwe has earned a spot there.
