Policemen shot nine comrades dead in Uruzgan

DEHRAUD (SW): Officials in southern Uruzgan province said that three police personnel shot dead 9 other policemen at a police checkpoint in Dehraud district in the province.

Dost Mohammad Nayaab, Spokesman for Governor in Uruzgan, told Salam Watandar that the men of Afghan National Police Personnel and Afghan Local Police were stationed at the checkpoint when two other ANP and an ALP man opened fire at them and shot 9 of them dead.

He said that the attackers took their equipment with them and joined the Taliban.

Nayaab said that security forces arrived at the scene and have arrested a number of personnel accusing them of cooperating with the perpetrators.

He said that the number of those who have been arrested by the security forces is not clear but among them are those who had guaranteed to recruit the three devil police officers.

A number of residents and civil society activists in Kandahar, condemned the incident and said that misusing police uniform was against the law.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi who claims to be Taliban’s spokesman, took responsibility for the incident and has tweeted that those who shot dead 9 police personnel were their men and were linked to Taliban.

Last week, similar incident took place in Kandahar when a police officer shot dead 4 other police personnel in Khakriz district and then escaped the scene.
