SAR-E-PUL(SW): Local residents in Sare-e-Pul complaining about the security situation, said that if the government provided them with arms, they would fight the militants and expelled them out of the province.
They warned the government that if it did not pay attention to the security situation in Sar-e-Pul, the story of Kunudz would repeat in this province. Abdul Hamid, a trible elder, said that fighting and insecurity have fed-up the residents.
Shaikh Abdullah, one of the religious scholars in Sar-e-Pul, accused the Taliban of violating human rights. He added that the militants have committed atrocities against people in Kohistanat district.
Mohammad Asef Jabarkhyel, acting police chief in Sar-e-Pul, told Salamwatandar that lack of equipment for security forces caused some parts of the province to fell to the Taliban. He assured that reinforcement forces would soon reach the province and an operation would begin to recapture the areas that are now under the control of the militants.
According to him, local up-risers would also join security forces in the eminent operation.
Taliban have intensified their offensives since the beginning of the current year. Two weeks ago, the Taliban captured Kunduz city which was soon recaptured by the security forces.
Security officials said that the 3-day occupation of Kunduz, has boosted the morale of the militants and that is why they have intensified their attacks on Baghlan, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul and Ghazni provinces.
