JALALABAD (SW) – At least 13 members of the pro-government militia and 29 Taliban rebels in Nangarhar’s Bati Kot district got killed in clashes, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to officials, the rebels stormed a number of security check posts in the Anbar Khana, Lachpur, Lwartay and Nawaqolo areas last night.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the fighting continued till early Tuesday. He said 29 rebels and 13 members of the local uprising force got killed in these clashes.
The spokesman said additional troops have been sent to the area to push back the rebels, and a clean-up operation has been launched in the surroundings. Khogyani said the security forces also confiscated arms and ammunition from the rebels’ custody.
A member of the local uprising force confirmed the fighting has stopped now.
In a statement sent to the local media, the Taliban claimed to have inflicted heavy losses on the security forces in Bati Kot. The Taliban denied losses of their fighters in these clashes.
It is worth noticing, the local uprising force in Bati Kot recently took arms against the Taliban in the area.
