GARDEZ (SW) – Local officials in Paktia province claim up to 81 Taliban rebels got killed in the clashes with the security forces here.
According to the officials, the rebels staged coordinated attacks on check posts in Ahmad Aba district while the security forces conducted operations in Zurmat district resulting in these casualties. Sardaar Wali Tabasum, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, informed the Taliban attacked check posts in the Machalgho area of the Ahmad Aba district. He added air support was called that killed 51 rebels.
He confirmed four policemen got killed and seven more got wounded.
Separately, Abdullah Hasrat, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed clean-up operation was conducted in the Zurmat district, killing 30 rebels.
The Taliban have not commented on this so far.
