KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has dismissed minister for Water and Energy, Ali Ahmad Usmani, from his post.
A statement by the Arg (presidential palace) noted on Saturday, Mr. Usmani has been dismissed, and the MoWE affairs would be managed by the deputy minister.
Differences between the president and Usmani came to the limelight when the dismissed minister was not allowed to appear in the inauguration of the TAPI (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India) gas pipeline project.
A while ago, the former minister skipped appearance before the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) which had summoned him over poor performance of the ministry. Some members opposed summoning him, however, Irfanullah Irfan, secretary of the Wj, said Usmani was summoned due to poor performance of his ministry in regard to the Pashdan Dam in Herat, Almaar Dam in Faryab, Chalgho Dam in Paktia and other projects.
Last month, security officials barred Usmani from boarding a flight on reported directives of the president.
