KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said the strategy for peace outlined at the Kabul Process is comprehensive, and the government would not backtrack from the path of peace.
He said this while addressing the maiden session of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) after winter break. The President said strengthening of the security forces and curbing corruption are essential for sustainable peace in the country.
Ghani said peace talks are pivotal for the sake of Islam and the country. He went on to say some groups see their interests in the continuation of violence.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, said situation in the country is complicated, and citizens across the country back the government’s peace strategy. He added countrymen demand timely and transparent parliamentary elections.
