TALUQAN (SW): Residents of Takhar province’s Chahab district have set-up a protest camp against the return of the Hezb-e-Islami commander Bashir Qanet to the area.
The protesters claim a number of residents have left their homes upon the return of Qanet who has allegedly physically abused many people. They said the HI commander has once again united all his followers in the district.
Meanwhile, provincial governor Afzalullah Mujadadi has said it is not clear why Qanet has returned to the province. He said a delegation has been sent to the district to assess the situation.
Few months back, a court in the province directed the law enforcement agencies to take Qanet into custody on charges of murders among other charges. He was moved to Kabul in an official convoy a while ago.
