LASHKARGAH (SW): At least eight security personnel are reportedly killed in the Taliban’s early morning attacks on security ring and surrounding check posts in Helmand province.
The Taliban militants attacked security check posts in Grishk district’s Awpashak and Deh Adam Khan areas early on Thursday. A well-placed security source who wished not to be named told Salam Watandar up to 6 policemen and 2 soldiers died in this attack, and three security check posts have been overrun by the Taliban. The clashes are ongoing.
Abdul Salam, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, said two soldiers and three policemen got injured in this attack. He said a third vehicle bombing was prevented by the security forces, fresh ground and air forces have been dispatched to the area to quell the attack.
The Taliban, however, have made claims about killing up to 30 policemen, and overrunning a military base and many check posts.
