8 officials imprisoned in Ghor over corruption

CHAGCHARAN (SW): As many as eight local officials have been sentenced for 3 months in prison oer charges of corruption.

These local officials were charged for misusing their authorities and their trail took place in the primary court in an open session.

A while ago, Sima Joyenda, the former governor, charged these 8 officials for embezzlement of more than afn 117 million. Joyenda charged them for not being fair and she referred their cases to the court.

The list, which was submitted to the court included the names of Mohammad Amin Tokhi, the deputy governor, Muhammad Yosuf Danyar, the finance officer, Abdul Hal Rasuli, the director at the income department, Noordin, the office manager at the finance department, Abdul Samad, the logistic manager, Eng. Khairuddin, the head to urban development affairs and Gholam Muhammad Paiman, the official manager at provincial government and a low ranking government employee.

Charging them for embezzlement, the court sentenced them for 3 months in prison.

The ex-governor had issued the arrest warrants of these 8 accused local officials after she found that these men had not dealt with the development project for the police department in accordance to the norms and laws.

Speaking to Salam Watandar, Gholam Nasir Khazee, Governor of Ghor province said that such punishments can help prevent such corruption in the future. Acknowledging that corruption exists in public offices, the governor stated apart from the challenges, the government offices have now turned into a ground for ethnic rigidities as well. He added that efforts are underway to ease the ethnic rift in public offices.
