7000 students deprived of education in Zabul

QALAT (SW): Various endemic issues have forced the closure of many schools in the southern Zabul province leaving over 7000 children deprived of studies, officials of the Zabul Education Department has said.

According to these officials, out of the students facing the brunt of affairs, 30% are girls. Rahimullah Lodin, Head of Education Department in Zabul, told journalists that the Khak Afghan, Dai Chopan, Shamlzai, Atghar and Naw Bahar districts were the worst affected. He added that there have been 240 schools in the structure of Zabul province out which 140 have been non-functional for years.

Lodin added that lack of proper buildings for 80% of students in this province was the major issue faced by the Education Department. He mentioned insecurity was the reason behind closure of 100 schools.

Zabul Education Department officials disclosed they could resolve the problems with residents’ cooperation provided the Ministry of Education pays attention to the matter.

Lodin denied the reports that indicated the salaries of the academic staff in Sha Joy district were channeled to the armed militants. He added that anyone working in the government institutions should obey the rules and regulations of the department and only those proving their presence at the schools would be paid.

In addition to Zabul, there have been similar reports from numerous other provinces.
