KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Defense (MoD) aims to document and account for all military assets across the country by July.
Ghulam Sakhi Ahmadzai, deputy minister at the MoD, while addressing a press conference on Thursday here in Kabul said 70 per cent of military assets and equipment have been documented so far. “The contracts which were previously granted at the Corps level will now be approved only at the Ministry. With this new approach, the Ministry has saved 6 billion afghanis so far in expenditures”, informed Ahmadzai.
According to the deputy minister, in the current year the Ministry is focused on infrastructure building. He added that the Ministry has awarded contracts worth 850 million afghanis for the construction of armories, army bases and security walls.
Corruption remains among the biggest challenges at the security sector.
