KABUL (SW): In line with the peace deal, a number of the imprisoned Hezb-e-Islami party members are set to be free next week.
Hashmetullah Arshad, spokesman for the Hezb-e-Islami party, told Salam Watandar up to 69 imprisoned members of the party will be released based on the agreement between the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Hezb-e-Islami party. “The release will end the peace deal deadlock between the NUG and the Hezb-e-Islami. The release of these prisoners will expedite the peace deal”, believed Arshad.
According to the HI spokesman, the prisoners were supposed to be released this week, but due to some problems, the prisoners will nnow be released next week. Hashmetullah Arshad further said Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the Hezb-e-Islami party chief, is present in Afghanistan and will have public appearance after the release of the these prisoners. Based on the information given by the Hezb-e-Islami party spokesman, 300 security men are ready to guard Hekmatyar.
The NUG has also shown preparedness to implement the peace deal within 15 days.
Ahmad Farzam, spokesman for the peace deal implementation committee, has said the Hezb-e-Islami party has kept its part of the bargain in the peace deal such as stopping all anti-government activities, while the NUG is expecting to implement the rest of the peace deal after the arrival of Hekmatyar to Kabul. “Every prisoner released will uphold the Constitution and the Afghan laws”, added Farzam.
The Hezb-e-Islami party and the NUG peace deal document is in 3 chapters and 25 articles which aims to end anti-government activities, bring peace and end violence.
