MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW): 60 raisin factories are put into operation in Balkh province on Wednesday.
According to Balkh Agriculture of Agriculture and Irrigation, the raisin factories worth over 500 thousand dollars.
Ahmad Fahim Jabari, the head of the national horticulture and livestock project in the northern region, at the opening ceremony of the factories says the gardeners of the province needed the raisin factories. According to him, 15 more raisin factories will be built in Balkh province. “Including in Balkh the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has built 360 raisin factories worth 200 million afghanis in northern provinces of the country”, added Jabari.
A number of Balkh gardeners who will utilize the raisin factories say they have had a lot of problems in the past due to lack of proper location for raisin processing, but most of their problems will be solved with the opening of the raisin factories.
Officials from the Balkh Agriculture Directorate say that the gardeners of this province have become more interested in these years and they have planted grapes every year over an area of more than 3 thousand hectares of land.
