KABUL (SW) – Since the beginning of Ramadan, the provinces of Kunduz, Samangan, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Balkh, Badakhshan, Daikundi and Herat provinces have witnessed fierce clashes between security forces and the Taliban.
Security and local officials in these provinces say 50 security forces have been killed and 63 others wounded since the beginning of Ramadan as a result of clashes. According to them, 63 other security forces were wounded in the clashes.
Figures compiled by Salam Watandar suggest the highest casualties were reported from Kunduz, Samangan, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Balkh and Badakhshan provinces.
Abdul Marouf Azar, spokesman for the governor of Jawzjan, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban launched 13 attacks against security forces in the center and districts of the province since the beginning of Ramadan. He said nine pro-government forces got killed and 12 others were wounded in these attacks while 16 Taliban militants were killed 20 others wounded.
Security and local officials in Jawzjan, Samangan, Balkh, Daikundi, Sar-e-Pul, Kunduz and Badakhshan said 69 Taliban fighters have been killed and 44 others wounded in the clashes. According to officials, 16 Taliban were killed in Jawzjan, 15 in Samangan, 12 in Balkh, 12 in Daikundi, 6 in Sar-e-Pul, 4 in Kunduz and 4 in Badakhshan. In addition, 20 Taliban were wounded in Jawzjan, two in Samangan, six in Balkh, six in Daikundi, seven in Sar-e-Pul, one in Kunduz and two in Badakhshan.
Meanwhile, the office of the National Security Council said that 17 civilians have been killed by the Taliban in 17 provinces in the first seven days of Ramadan. Javed Faisal, a spokesman for the NSC, tweeted on Sunday that 49 civilians were injured in Helmand, Uruzgan, Badghis, Baghlan, Paktika, Zabul, Ghazni, Ghor, Faryab, Kabul, Kapisa, Kunduz, Kandahar, Logar, Nangarhar, Nimroz and Herat provinces.
