5 thousand families get access to drinking water in Kandahar

05/05/2017

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Officials at the provincial chapter of irrigation have said ground water has dwelled down to 15 per cent in the province.

The provincial Directorate of Water Supply (DoWS) said residents are facing drinking water shortages. Mohammad Kakar, head of provincial DoWS, told Salam Watandar that to solve the issue the directorate is aiming to provide 5 thousand families in police district 9 of the province as a pilot project with drinking water. “Providing people with drinking water will avoid water related disease”, added Kakar.

According to DoWS officials the construction of water pipeline is underway in Dand and Daman districts of the province.

Residents of the province told Salam Watandar that deep wells drilled by lawless men have resulted in shortage of drinking water in the province.

Previously provincial DoWS had complained over the non-payment of water bills by lawless men.
