KABUL (SW): The The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has released its 10-month report on state of women in the country.
Seema Samar, head of the AIHRC, told the press conference in this connection that a total of 3778 cases of violence are recorded throughout the year. This included 1351 cases of physical abuse, 184 cases of sexual abuse, 1093 verbal abuses, 589 cases of economic persecution and 557 other incidents of persecution.
The report was released on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The AIHRC head said only 50 per cent of perpetrators have been arrested.
A separate report by the AIHRC indicate that 42 per cent women serving in the security sector said they face different sorts of discrimination and harassment on daily basis.
Mohammad Sarwar Danish, First Vice President, told the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) today that the house should decide on the fate of bill on draft law on violence against women. This comes as the draft law was separated from the revised Penal Code earlier this month.
