KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) with cooperation of the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrated “safe road week” on Monday here in Kabul.
Abdul Wadood Khair Khwa, head of Kabul Traffic Police Directorate, addressing a gathering to mark the week, said more than 250 traffic accidents are registered all over the country in the past 2 months claiming 84 lives. He urged relevant entities to put effort and reduce traffic incidents.
Ahmad Jan Naim, deputy director of the MoPH, said drug abuse while driving, lack of traffic instructions, not using seat belt while driving, and lack of standard roads are the main causes of road incidents in the country. He further said that in the last one year more than 868 people died and 55677 got injured due to road accidents.
Bieber Coren, WHO representative in Afghanistan, also urged drivers to follow simple driving regulations such as using seat belts, considering speed limits and avoid using telephone while driving to reduce road incidents.
