KABUL (SW): A day after the brazen terrorist attack killing nine journalist among scores of civilians in Kabul, media workers across the country raised grim concerns over their safety.

Association of journalists in the eastern zone on Tuesday condemned the Daesh-claimed twin-suicide attack in Kabul’s Shash Darak neighborhood a day earlier.

Sher Shah Hamdard, head of the journalists’ safety committee in the eastern zone, pronounced the killings of journalists in Kabul, Khost and Kandahar as extremely worrying. He noted journalists in this part of the country are also under direct threat from the pro-Daesh militants.

He called upon the government and all warring sides of the conflict to acknowledge and respect the neutrality of the journalists.

Separately, Naqibullah Saqibyar, head of the Directorate of Information and Culture in Badakhshan, has also raised concerns over the safety of journalist in the province. Zakrya Nasiri, head of the Directorate of Information and Culture in Faryab, and Jamil Waqar, head of the Journalists Safety Committee, have called for measures to safeguard the freedom of press, and security of journalists.

Health officials have confirmed killing of nine journalists in Monday’s attack in Kabul. Another journalist, Ahmad Shah, was shot dead also on Monday in Khost province. A week earlier, Abdul Hanan Arghand, a Kandahar-based journalist, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Kandahar city.
