SAR-I-PUL (SW): The pro-Daesh militants have killed 24 out of the 27 abducted farmers in Sar-i-Pul’s Sayad district, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Mohammad Noor Rahmani, chairman of the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar that the incident took place in the Mirza Olang area of the province. He added the militants under the command of their leader Sher Mohammad Ghazanfari are involved in this abduction. Rahmani went on to say the security situation in the province is fragile, and the fate of the abducted farmers unknown.
The provincial council chairman further said a delegation of the local elders wished to mediate for release of the abducted men, but ragging clashes between the security forces and the militants stopped them from visiting the Mirza Olang area. The Sar-i-Pul provincial council chairman warned the government to take immediate steps towards restoring peace in the province otherwise a human catastrophe might emerge.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Amani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has said they have not received any such reports. He added a delegation of the local elders would go and bring the dead bodies of the civilians who died during clashes among the pro-Daesh militants, the Taliban and the government forces. He did not comment on the death toll, but a local source informed Salam Watandar that up to 33 civilians and 7 members of the local pro-government militia have died in these clashes.
On their part, the militants have not commented on the matter.
