KABUL(SW): The Ministry of Health has gathered around 200 drug addicts from the 13 district of Kabul today and transferred them to Hazar Bester Hospital (Hospital of 1000 beds) for the treatment.

Fida Mohammad Paikan, Deputy Minister of Health said that the program to gather the homeless addicts in Kabul is in progress and the drug addicts are gathered by special officers of Ministry of Health and for treatment, accommodation and vocational training, they are transferred to the rehab centers.

According to Mr. Paikan, these drug addicts will be admitted for about 90 days for treatment in the Hazar Bester Hospital. The lack of financial resources, easy access of drugs by addicts, unemployment and other social problems are the main challenges to their work, the Deputy Minister said.

Mr. Paikan said the existing treatment facilities for addicts are not sufficient, and efforts are underway to increase these facilities.

At the same time as the addicts were gathered, a number of addicts who received treatment previously were discharged from the hospital of 1000 beds today. They said that some drug addicts have repeatedly been addicted because of social problems in the country.

Previously, complaints about the lack of effective programs for the treatment of addicts were repeatedly reported. Most drug addicts who are undergoing addiction treatment were re-addicted due to unemployment and easy access to drugs.
