150 families rescued from restive Mirza Olang

SAR-I-PUL (SW): A well-placed source has informed Salam Watandar that up to 150 trapped families have been rescued from the militants’ siege in Sar-i-Pul province.  

The source has informed that these families have been moved from Sayad district’s Mirza Olang district to the provincial capital Sar-i-Pul in 11 vehicles. Mawlawi Noor Mohammad, a member of the provincial council, has confirmed that these 150 families that comprise of some 235 people have been rescued with the help of local elders from the restive village.

The provincial government has acknowledged this development and has further notified that additional troops of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have arrived to clear the area. Some five days ago, the pro-Daesh militants and the Taliban stormed Mirza Olang village and killed over 50 people while taking a number of families as hostages.
