101 rebels killed, two ANP men joins Taliban

KABUL (SW): Over one hundred armed rebels have been killed in various offensives across the country in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior claimed on Monday.

The MoI claimed in a communiqué that the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate for Security (NDS) forces jointly conducted operations. It said 101 rebels were killed in Nangarhar, Parwan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Faryab, Sar-i-Pul, Uruzgan, Jawzjan, Paktika and Helmand provinces.

It claims the government forces also confiscated huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Meanwhile in western Herat province on Monday, four ANP men got killed by the militants and two reportedly joined the ranks of the armed rebels.  Gulbadin Alakozay, a 705 Corps officer told SW these incidents took place in the Gulran district.

He added further details into the incident of ANP men joining the rebels would be disclosed following investigations.

Assadullah Noorzai, Gulran district chief has confirmed the incident. Talking to SW via telephone, he said the militants over powered the only check post in the Chahar Takht area of the district that had only six ANA men on duty.
