KABUL (SW): Government officials have said they would turn Kunduz into graveyard for the armed Taliban in Kunduz.
In the meantime, officials claim government forces have killed Taliban’s shadow governor Mawlawi Salam and his deputy Zabehullah has been killed with his 15 militant allies. The National Directorate of Security (NDS) has said in a statement that Lashkar-e-Tayaba’s leader in Kunduz Haris has also been killed. The officials stated Taliban wished to attack the airport in Kunduz.
The LeT commander is said to be native of Pakistan’s Punjab province and was eliminated in an aerial strike last night around 9pm. The NDS also mentioned that Salam’s death would leave direct impacts on the moral of the militants. The statement noted government forces would turn Kunduz into graveyard of the militants.
The Taliban have denied the reports relating to Salam’s death.
The militants attacked Kunduz on Tuesday, entered the provincial capital and captured a number of government installations. The government forces launched counter offensives a day later and have vowed to soon clear the area.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday that government forces have been advised to make sure civilians are not harmed.
