KABUL (SW) – On World Water Day, aid agencies have highlighted the issues related with water shortage and drought in war-ravaged Afghanistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Access to safe water in <\/span>#Afghanistan<\/span> has been affected by decades of conflict, inhibiting a sustainable management of water resources. Addressing the effects of climate change is critical to avert a severe water crises that will affect millions of people”, tweeted the ICRC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, UN Children Fund or UNICEF said in a brief statement that in Afghanistan, nearly 100% of the population relies on groundwater. “But in much of the country, this <\/span>\u00a0is significantly depleted – especially in cities. This <\/span>#WorldWaterDay<\/span><\/span>, we must consider ways to protect this precious resource, and find ways to sustainably manage its use”, it tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n

George Laryea-Adjei, UNICEF country director said in this regard that t<\/span><\/span>he <\/span>water<\/span> crisis in <\/span>Afghanistan<\/span> is having a direct impact on the health, nutrition and wellbeing of the most vulnerable children and families. “We at <\/span>UNICEF<\/span> are doing everything we can but we need our partners to step forward so together we can do more. <\/span>#WorldWaterDay”, he tweeted.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
