KABUL (SW) – The Director General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation <\/span>office in <\/span>Afghanistan<\/span>, Dr Muhammad Saeed Al-Ayash, has assumed office in the Afghan capital, <\/span>Kabul<\/span>, on Wednesday 4 March 2022. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

It said in a series of tweets that the move was within the framework of the OIC\u2019s attention to the situation in <\/span>Afghanistan<\/span> and its endeavour to follow up implementation of the outcome of the extraordinary ministerial meeting held in <\/span>Pakistan <\/span>last December.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“The Kabul office will coordinate the <\/span>#OIC<\/span>\u2019s humanitarian efforts with <\/span>#Afghanistan<\/span> and international partners. It will be strengthened with human and material resources in conformity with the resolution adopted by the extraordinary ministerial conference on Afghanistan”.<\/span><\/div>\n

An OIC resolution released in December after the meeting said the Islamic Development Bank would lead the effort to free up assistance by the first quarter of 2022.<\/p>\n

It also urged Afghanistan\u2019s rulers to abide by \u201cobligations under international human rights covenants, especially with regards to the rights of women, children, youth, elderly and people with special needs\u201d.<\/p>\n

The OIC meeting did not give the new Taliban government any formal international recognition and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi was excluded from the official photograph taken during the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
