KABUL (SW) – Kabul residents fear lack of enough awareness about the threats posed by the new variants of the coronavvirus in the country would further aggravate the situation.<\/b><\/p>\n
A number of residents in the capital have criticized the Ministry of Public Health for failing to address the threat posed by the new variants of the virus, saying that the threats of the epidemic has increased, but the ministry has no plans or actions to inform the citizens in this regard.<\/p>\n
They accuse the Ministry of Public Health of negligence in preventing and controlling the Omicron virus.<\/p>\n
Residents of Kabul emphasized that the lack of awareness about the dangers of the Omicron and lack of seriousness by citizens will increase their vulnerability to the virus.<\/p>\n
“Criticism is more about the functions of the Ministry of Public Health,” said Taban, a Kabul resident. “It failed to build a public awareness system for citizens to make people aware as the virus still exists and is spreading.”<\/p>\n
Installing billboards at the city level and disseminating health messages through the media for public awareness are measures suggested by citizens.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Javid Hajir, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, in an interview with Salam Watandar, acknowledged the citizens’ criticism and said that due to lack of funds and facilities, there is no public awareness program underway.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Tariq Akbari, chief physician of the Afghan-Japanese Hospital, acknowledged that public awareness is useful in preventing the spread of the omicron virus.<\/p>\n
