KABUL (SW) – The United States has welcomed the Islamic Emirate leader’s new decree on women’s rights in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

US Secretary of State’ Special Envoy for\u00a0 Afghanistan, Thomas West has welcomed the recent decree of Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, on women’s rights.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He wrote on Twitter today that the US welcomes the new decree of the leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on the right of women regarding marriage and inheritance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Thomas West, however, stressed that more needs to be done to ensure women’s rights in every part of Afghan society, including the right to education, employment, political participation and freedom of expression.<\/div>\n

It should be noted that Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzadeh in a six-article decree ordered that the rights of women and girls must be ensured.<\/div>\n

\u201cAdult women’s consent is necessary during Nekah\/marriage,\u201d Taliban supreme commander Akhunzada said in a special decree, asserting genders \u201cshould be equal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one can force women to marry by coercion or pressure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The decree said a woman was not property, \u201cbut a noble and free human being; no one can give her to anyone in exchange for a peace deal or to end animosity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Taliban leader said a widow also has the \u201cright to heritage and fixed share in the property of her husband, children, father and relatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one can deprive a widow of her right,\u201d according to the decree.<\/p>\n

He added those with multi wives \u201care obliged to give rights to all women in accordance with sharia law, and maintain justice between them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Akhunzada asked the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs to \u201cencourage scholars\u201d to spread \u201cawareness to the people about women\u2019s rights\u201d and the Ministry of Information and Culture to \u201cpublish articles related to women’s rights through its means in writing and audio, as well as, encourage writers and activists to publish useful articles on women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Akhunzada asked the Supreme Court to issue instructions to courts to \u201cconsider the application for women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
