KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe the chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI visited Kabul earlier this week to mend ties among Taliban leaders at odd over different issues.<\/p>\n
Pakistani media has reported that Gen. Faiz Hamid, head of Pakistan’s ISI, had left for Kabul at the invitation of the Taliban and was scheduled to meet with Taliban officials.<\/p>\n
Political analysts belive the reason for the Pakistani military intelligence chief’s arrival in Kabul was the escalation of internal divisions among Taliban leaders, and that the deepening tensions that prompted Islamabad to take action to resolve them.<\/p>\n
Sayed Baqir Mohseni, a political analyst, said the reason for the delay in announcing the government by the Taliban was a sign of serious and deep internal divisions, and the Pakistani intelligence official’s recent visit reinforces this view.<\/p>\n
Analysts believe that since the Taliban have not been able to resolve their internal tensions, they need mediation to end these differences.<\/p>\n
Akram Arefi, another political analyst, said that the Pakistani intelligence chief’s visit was very effective in curbing the differences, and that no power other than Pakistan could control the Taliban.<\/p>\n
However, the Taliban have said that the ISI chief’s visit to Kabul was to continue cooperation between the two countries, and that the two sides are in talks to establish relations in various fields.<\/p>\n
Enamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s cultural commission, said co-operation to activate civilian flights at Kabul airport and resolve problems at the two countries’ borders was one of the topics discussed between the two sides.<\/p>\n
About three weeks have passed since the Taliban took control of the country, and despite the fact that Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the deputy head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, announced last Wednesday that a new government would be announced in two days, this promise has not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n
