KABUL (SW) \u2013 At least 17 people got killed or injured following celebratory aerial firing in connection with the Taliban\u2019s advances on Panjshir province.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At around 9pm last evening, Kabul and some other provinces witnessed heavy aerial firing. According to Taliban officials, 17 people were killed and wounded in these incidents of firing. Although, the Taliban has not clarified how many of these people were killed and how many were injured.<\/p>\n

According to reports, in Kabul alone two people were killed and three others were injured.<\/p>\n

A number of residents of Kabul told Salam Watandar that the Taliban’s aerial firing spread fear among the population and no one has yet commented on the cause. According to them, the sounds of gunfire created panic all over Kabul and people had to flee to safer places.<\/p>\n

Sadaf, a resident of Kabul, said that although she did not know what was going on, she heard gunshots coming from all directions. “Some will say that the Taliban have captured Panjshir and some will say that they have appointed their leader,” she said. \u201cIt was a hard night. If they shoot at any such occasions like this, more people will be harmed. The Islamic Emirate must pay attention and who knows how many people have been killed or injured in these shootings.”<\/p>\n

Habib, another Kabul resident, said the Taliban’s indiscriminate firing in Kabul had frightened people, and some even feared if a civil war had broken out.<\/p>\n

The Taliban lamented the indiscriminate firing by the group’s fighters and said it would not happen again. Inamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s cultural commission, said those who harmed civilians would soon be punished.<\/p>\n

According to him, there were reports of Taliban advance in Panjshir and that was the reason why some Taliban opened fire to celebrate.<\/p>\n

This is the second time the Taliban have fired such shots at night. Taliban also opened fire in the middle of the night last week after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, spreading fear among the population.<\/p>\n
