MONITORING (SW) \u2013 The US has said it is aware of civilian casualties report following an unmanned airstrike in the Afghanistan capital Kabul on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The US took responsibility Sunday for a loud explosion in the Afghan capital Kabul near the airport, saying it was an airstrike at the terror group behind last week’s attack that killed and injured hundreds.<\/p>\n

The US Central Command said the blast was an \u201cover-the-horizon airstrike to hit a vehicle\u201d which posed an \u201cimminent\u201d threat to Hamid Karzai International Airport from ISIS-K, the Deash\/ISIS terror affiliate behind last Thursday\u2019s attack which killed some 170 people, including 13 US soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,\u201d said Capt. Bill Urban, spokesman for US Central Command.<\/p>\n

He later said in a separate statement that the US was are aware of reports of civilian casualties following our strike on a vehicle in Kabul today.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still assessing the results of this strike, which we know disrupted an imminent ISIS-K threat to the airport. We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties\u201d, he said, adding it was unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life.”<\/p>\n

According to the local media, at least six people including four children were killed and four others were wounded in this incident.<\/p>\n
