KABUL (SW) \u2013 Findings by the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission suggest 39 civilians have been killed in four provinces in the past week alone.<\/p>\n
Zabihullah Farhang, media officer of the commission, said the civilians were killed in sticky and roadside bomb blasts and armed attacks in Farah, Parwan, Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces.<\/p>\n
The dead included four women and eight children, according to Farhang. He added that four civilians, including two women and two children, were injured in the incidents.<\/p>\n
The rights group said in a statement that the attackers were Taliban militants and unidentified individuals. The commission has called for an immediate ceasefire and a negotiated solution to the conflict.<\/p>\n
The commission described the current situation in the country as “worrying” and added that the outcome of the war was nothing more than killings and destruction.<\/p>\n
This comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani called for a ceasefire in the run-up to the holy month of Ramadan and called on the Taliban to accept the people’ rightful call for a permanent truce.<\/p>\n
The Taliban have not yet responded to calls from the president and the people for a ceasefire.<\/p>\n
