PUL-E-KHUMRI (SW) \u2013 Chief of the special police unit in Baghlan has been killed by the Taliban in an ambush, said officials.<\/p>\n
Baghlan police spokesman Ahmad Javed Besharat said that Sharifullah Khosti was killed last night, Thursday, in a clash with the Taliban in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Taliban also suffered casualties in the clash.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, credible security sources in Baghlan told Salam Watandar that nine government forces had been wounded as a result of Taliban attacks on a convoy of security forces in the second police district of Pul-e-Khumri. According to these sources, three tanks of these forces were also destroyed in this incident.<\/p>\n
Sources say that Sharifullah Khosti, the commander of a special police unit in Baghlan province, was killed in a Taliban ambush while he was assisting the forces. The Supreme Council of National Reconciliation has condemned the incident.<\/p>\n
Sharifullah Khosti was appointed commander of the Baghlan police special unit two years ago. He was wounded several times by Taliban ambushes and landmines.<\/p>\n
He got killed days after Gen. Yasin Zia, the acting defense minister, visited the province and said there were no security concerns in Baghlan.<\/p>\n
