A number of residents of Asadabad, the capital of Kunar Province, say that expanding construction in recent years has destroyed large areas of greenery in the city. They add that the loss of green areas has contributed to rising temperatures, increased dust, and environmental pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hedayatullah Safi, a resident of Asadabad, says he expects measures to be taken to prevent the destruction of green areas and to build new parks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope measures will be taken to protect existing green areas and limit tree cutting. Green areas are essential because they not only make the city more beautiful but also provide clean air and places for people\u2019s recreation. Children have no safe places to play, and youth have no suitable places for sports and recreation,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Ekramullah Ehsas, another resident of Asadabad, says he used to go to parks and green areas to relax, but access to these areas has now become limited.<\/p>\n

\u201cAir pollution, rising temperatures, a lack of playgrounds for children, and mental health problems are among the main issues caused by the loss of green areas. Tree-planting programs should be expanded, illegal construction should be controlled, and public parks should be built in every district,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Lemar Safi, who has lived in Asadabad for many years, says the decline in green areas has negatively affected her family\u2019s physical and mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shortage of clean air, increased noise and dust, and limited recreational areas cause fatigue and psychological pressure. Children also do not have enough open space to play,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

These residents of Kunar are calling on the relevant authorities and the municipality to better manage the construction process, protect existing green areas, and establish public parks to improve environmental conditions and provide suitable places for recreation.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Mohammad Zaheer, head of the Social and Cultural Unit of Asadabad Municipality, says the municipality has begun reviewing and assessing urban development plans, including identifying green areas.<\/p>\n

According to him, efforts are ongoing to prevent irregular urban development and the destruction of green areas in the province.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnauthorized buildings constructed in the past have now become an obstacle to urban development. The current plans are also being reviewed to find ways to prevent unauthorized construction and irregular urban development. This will help ensure that residential areas develop in an organized and modern way in the future,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a number of environmental experts also say that the loss of green areas has increased the negative consequences of climate change and made residents more vulnerable to its impacts.<\/p>\n

Sudais, another environmental expert, says the government should take serious measures to protect green areas by launching public awareness campaigns to prevent their destruction.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreen areas are known as the lungs of cities. When green areas decrease, carbon dioxide levels rise, air pollution increases, and the consequences of climate change are felt to a greater extent. This situation also negatively affects people\u2019s health,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Green areas and public parks play an important role in reducing air pollution, moderating temperatures, improving public health, and making cities more beautiful. However, urban expansion, population growth, and uncontrolled construction are among the main causes of the loss of green areas in many cities.<\/p>\n
