A number of residents of Nangarhar Province who work in olive processing say that investment in the olive industry can create job opportunities and help generate income for others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abdul Haq, a 25-year-old resident of Nangarhar, says he started producing olive oil five years ago with an initial investment of 200,000 Afghanis and has gradually employed several people.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal is to increase my income through this work and be able to cover my family\u2019s expenses. I ask the government to cooperate with us to pave the way for creating a suitable market, providing financial support, and supplying olive-processing equipment,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Omar, a 31-year-old resident of Nangarhar who started working in the olive industry five years ago, says he covers his living expenses with the income he earns from selling olive oil and olives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sell olive oil and olives in a small shop. I started this business with 30,000 Afghanis, and our capital is increasing day by day. We cover our family\u2019s living expenses through this work,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Bilal Tawhidi, another resident of Nangarhar, says he started working in the olive sector four years ago with an investment of 50,000 Afghanis, and his income has now reached 250,000 Afghanis.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe collect olives and work in their collection, processing, and packaging. We started this business with 50,000 Afghanis, and our income has now reached around 250,000 Afghanis,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sayed Homayoon Gharibmal, spokesperson for the state-owned Wadi Nangarhar Agricultural Company, says olive production in the province is increasing. According to him, around 1,300 tons of olives were collected last year, and the figure is expected to reach 1,500 tons this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a large olive oil processing factory, and our products have customers both inside and outside the country. After the olives are collected and pickled, we begin processing them to produce olive oil. In this phase of production, job opportunities are also created for many people,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Hemmat Khan, an economic expert, says that increased investment in and support for the olive industry can help grow the household economy and create job opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf investment increases, it will not only create job opportunities for youth, but also strengthen the country\u2019s economy. To develop the olive industry, machinery should be imported, proper marketing and awareness campaigns should be carried out, and opportunities should be created to export olives to foreign markets,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

People working in the olive industry say that if better conditions are provided for olive processing, marketing, investment, and exports, it will not only increase people\u2019s incomes but also create more job opportunities for youth.<\/p>\n
