A number of students at Badakhshan University and employees of several offices in the province complain about limited or no access to safe drinking water and say they have to buy it, which puts an additional financial burden on them and creates other difficulties.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Musaddeq Nabizada, a 23-year-old journalism student at Badakhshan University, says that the lack of drinking water at the university has not only imposed additional costs on students but has also had a negative impact on the learning process.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, there is no drinking water at Badakhshan University, and students have to buy water. This creates many difficulties for us. Should students pay their transportation fare or buy water? We ask the authorities to pay attention to the university and drill wells so that students can have free access to drinking water,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Islamuddin Rahmani, another 21-year-old student at Badakhshan University, says the lack of water at the university has affected their studies.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, there is no drinking water at the university. We buy water from the university canteen, and the main problem is that not having drinking water and being thirsty affects our concentration,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Habibullah, an employee at one of the offices in Badakhshan, complains about not having access to water, saying, \u201cThere is no drinking water at all in our office, so we meet our needs by buying drinking water.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nik Mohammad Noori, another employee at an office in Badakhshan, says that the lack of access to water has forced them to buy it, which is difficult for employees with limited financial means.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no safe and freely available drinking water at the office where we work. If our office does not provide safe drinking water, we have to buy it from outside, which puts a financial burden on us. It is our office\u2019s duty to provide us with drinking water. If we drink unsafe water, we may contract various diseases,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

These residents of Badakhshan are calling on the Islamic Emirate to address the water access problem at universities and offices in the province.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, officials at the Badakhshan Department of Environmental Protection say declining water resources are a major concern for residents of the province. Faiz-ur-Rahman Ibrahimi, head of the Badakhshan Department of Environmental Protection, says,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeing surface water and groundwater levels declining and water sources drying up. Places that used to have plenty of water now have less, while places that had little water have become very dry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, health experts warn that water shortages and the use of unsafe water can pose serious health risks. Sanaullah Poya, an internal medicine specialist, says that a lack of access to enough clean water can contribute to various diseases.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, some areas do not have enough clean water, leaving people facing serious problems. Water shortages can have a significant impact on their physical health, including waterborne diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections, and even skin diseases,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

However, officials at Badakhshan University say that drinking water is provided through deep wells and that there is currently no shortage of water at the university. Khalid Ayazi, head of the Badakhshan University office, says,<\/p>\n

\u201cBadakhshan University has provided free and safe drinking water to students in all faculties and dormitories by drilling deep wells. Praise be to God, we are not facing any problems related to water shortages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although university officials say that drinking water is available, a number of students and office employees complain about the lack of access to safe drinking water and are calling on the relevant authorities to pay greater attention to the problem.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Afghanistan has experienced droughts and declining groundwater levels due to climate change, affecting people\u2019s lives across the country.<\/p>\n
