The disease, initially detected in a few limited livestock farms, gradually spread to other parts of the village, resulting in significant financial losses for local livestock owners.

Animal Health officials in the province, after technical investigations, have identified the primary cause of the livestock deaths as the simultaneous outbreak of three infectious diseases: blackleg, anthrax, and enterotoxemia.

The Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock of Kapisa, while warning of a serious threat to livestock owners’ livelihoods, has emphasized the importance of quarantine measures and the launch of a vaccination campaign. According to local livestock owners, these diseases present symptoms such as high fever, loss of appetite, general weakness, and tremors in the legs, leading to sudden death in cattle and sheep.

Nabiullah, a local livestock owner, says, “This disease originated in a herding group that had taken 250 cattle to pasture. As a result, about 10 to 15 cattle died within four to five days, and the disease is spreading rapidly. Our request to the Agriculture Department is to stop this outbreak as soon as possible, because all the people in this village are poor, or to provide public awareness. In the villages of Shokhi and Elyas Khel, approximately 3,000 to 4,000 families live.”

Gulmarjan, another livestock owner who witnessed the loss of his animals, told Salam Watandar,

“Some animals developed this disease in their abdomen, while others experienced tremors in their legs, and they survived for up to 12 hours.”

Shir Del, another livestock owner who has also lost part of his capital, criticized delays in assistance, saying,

“One of our cows became infected and died. In the entire village, animals are infected; each person has lost one, two, or three animals. So far, the government has not provided any assistance.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Livestock and Animal Health Department of Kapisa confirmed the presence of the three dangerous diseases in the area after sampling and technical investigations. Abdulkhalil Rahmani, Head of Livestock Affairs and Animal Health at the Kapisa Agriculture Directorate, says,

“Our investigations show that the deaths are caused by anthrax, blackleg, and enterotoxemia.”

He also adds that, so far, 10 livestock animals have died, while many infected animals are under treatment. “In total, about 10 animals have died, and many others are infected and are receiving treatment from our sector staff. Cattle, sheep, and goats are the most vulnerable to these diseases,” he says.

He further explains that spraying programs and disinfection of farms are currently underway and urges livestock owners to strictly avoid moving animals. He says,

“At present, a program for spraying and disinfecting farms is underway. Our strong recommendation is that livestock owners avoid moving animals—no new animals should be brought into the area, and no suspected animals should be moved out. We are also in the process of procuring vaccines for prevention, and partner organizations have been informed.”

The simultaneous identification of three deadly livestock diseases in Elyas Khel village has raised alarm over Kapisa’s livestock sector. Experts believe that without immediate wide vaccination and strict adherence to quarantine measures by livestock owners, there is a serious risk of the disease spreading to neighboring areas and causing further economic losses.

Animal Health officials in the province, after technical investigations, have identified the primary cause of the livestock deaths as the simultaneous outbreak of three infectious diseases: blackleg, anthrax, and enterotoxemia.

[990,16,218,30
404,1093,1638,1903,1904
post-29904","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest","category-report","category-health","category-environment","tag-kapisa","tag-livestock","tag-livestock-farmers","tag-outbreak","tag-disease
["GET
