Officials Confirm radio station “Azad” in Balkh Suspends Broadcasts After Nearly 10 Years of Operation Due to Financial Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n

Munir Ahmad Bahir, the head of the station, told Salam Watandar that the station ceased broadcasting due to economic challenges and a lack of financial support.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bahir added that following the suspension of broadcasts, around 10 of its employees, including women, have lost their jobs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The head of the radio station stressed the importance of supporting the media, stating: “Radio Azad, which has been active in various fields, has halted its operations after nearly 10 years. We are striving to resume our activities if we receive support from the government and media-supporting organizations.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials from some private local radio stations in Balkh have also reported that high electricity costs and the lack of advertising revenue have led to a decline in their activities compared to the past.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ahmadullah Stanekzai, the head of “Radio Killid” in Balkh, called for attention to the challenges faced by the media. “We urge government agencies and organizations supporting the media to strengthen and support the media by providing projects so we can play an effective role in informing and raising awareness,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahmoodullah Zarar, the head of the Information and Culture Directorate of Balkh, said that in order to address the media’s issues, they have shared their concerns with the de-facto government officials in the capital, Kabul.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, there are 10 audio media outlets, two visual media outlets, and three print media outlets operating in Balkh.<\/span><\/p>\n
