MONITORING (SW) – Russian President\u00a0Vladimir Putin has\u00a0praised US President-elect Donald Trump as an \u201cintelligent and experienced\u201d politician capable of finding \u201csolutions,\u201d as tensions between Moscow and the West ramp up over the war in Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters in Kazakhstan, Putin castigated President Joe Biden for creating \u201cadditional difficulties\u201d for the incoming Trump administration, after Biden gave Ukraine permission to fire longer-range American missiles, called\u00a0ATACMS, at targets deep inside Russia.<\/p>\n

The Russian president also\u00a0threatened to strike Ukraine again with a nuclear-capable ballistic missile, called \u201cOreshnik,\u201d following Moscow\u2019s widespread overnight attack Wednesday targeting critical energy infrastructure facilities, reported CNN.<\/p>\n

Asked whether Biden\u2019s decision would impact future relations between Moscow and Washington, Putin suggested things could improve after Trump takes office in January.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I can imagine, the newly elected president is an intelligent and already quite experienced person. I think he will find a solution,\u201d Putin said.<\/p>\n

Putin\u2019s congenial tone is in marked contrast with the Kremlin\u2019s threats against the outgoing Biden administration, which Putin accused of \u201cescalating\u201d the war in Ukraine by allowing Kyiv to fire ATACMS at military targets in Russia.<\/p>\n

Trump has pledged to end the war in Ukraine \u201cwithin 24 hours,\u201d without saying how. During the election campaign, he repeatedly refused to say whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Putin\u2019s comments come after Trump on Wednesday nominated Gen.\u00a0Keith Kellogg\u00a0to be special envoy to the warring countries. \u201cTogether, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!\u201d Trump wrote on social media, announcing his pick.<\/p>\n

Speaking from the sidelines of a security summit in the Kazakh capital Astana, Putin said Trump had overcome a \u201cserious test\u201d to return to the White House, referring to the two assassination attempts against him during the election campaign.<\/p>\n
