MONITORING (SW) – Former president Donald Trump has won the swing state of Georgia, returning its 16 electoral votes to the Republican column, the\u00a0Associated Press\u00a0reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With Trump\u2019s victory in Georgia, the state becomes the first to flip from the 2020 results,\u00a0AP<\/em> highlights. Joe Biden narrowly carried Georgia in 2020, but Republicans have won every other Georgia presidential vote since 1996,\u00a0AP<\/em>\u00a0notes.<\/p>\n

It adds that Trump tried to overturn his 2020 loss in Georgia, setting off a political and legal struggle that led to his indictment in the state.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump is on track to defeat Kamala Harris in a dramatic victory that would make him just the second person in American history to return to the White House after suffering a defeat.<\/p>\n

Trump, who was impeached twice by the US House of Representatives, would make history as the first convicted felon to serve as president, having been found guilty of 34 felony counts in a May trial over hush money payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels<\/p>\n

Republicans have also secured control of the Senate with crucial wins: Bernie Moreno in Ohio, Jim Justice in West Virginia and Deb Fischer, who held on to her seat in Nebraska, the New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n

For the first time in history, the Senate will have two Black women serving simultaneously: Lisa Blunt Rochester in Delaware and Angela Alsobrooks in Maryland, both Democrats.<\/p>\n

Democrats will have to defend several key seats to have a chance of keeping the Senate. The win targets below are based on what each party needs to reach 51 seats, assuming they win the races they are expected to win most easily,\u00a0NYT<\/em>\u00a0notes.<\/p>\n
