KABUL (SW) – Lebanon has announced three days of mourning after a huge Israeli air strike in Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs the previous day killed the Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said the official mourning would start on Monday, with flags to fly at half-mast on public buildings, a statement said.<\/p>\n

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, in a televised briefing, called Nasrallah \u201cone of the greatest enemies of the State of Israel of all time\u201d.<\/p>\n

A Lebanese security source said an Israeli strike on Saturday targeted a warehouse near Beirut airport, Lebanon\u2019s only international passenger facility.<\/p>\n

Israeli forces continued to pound Hezbollah\u2019s south Beirut stronghold into Saturday, sending panicked families fleeing.<\/p>\n

Middle East expert James Dorsey described Friday\u2019s attack as \u201cvery sophisticated\u201d, adding it \u201cdemonstrates not only significant technological cap\u00adacity but just how deeply Israel has penetrated Hezbollah\u201d, reported AFP.<\/p>\n

Iran said a senior member of its Revolutionary Guard Corps was also killed in the same strike. A source close to Hezbollah said the group\u2019s top commander in south Lebanon, Ali Karake, had also died.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s official\u00a0IRNA\u00a0news agency reported General Abbas Nilforou\u00adshan, deputy commander of the Guards\u2019 operations, died in the strike that killed Nasrallah.<\/p>\n

US President Joe Biden called the killing of Nasrallah \u201ca measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis and Lebanese civilians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israel\u2019s recent attacks in Lebanon as part of what he called an Israeli policy of \u201cgenocide, occupation, and invasion\u201d, urging the UN Security Council and other bodies to stop Israel.<\/p>\n

Yemen\u2019s Houthi rebels said Nasrallah\u2019s killing would strengthen their determination to confront their Israeli foes.<\/p>\n

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Saturday he was \u201cgravely concerned\u201d by the \u201cdramatic escalation\u201d seen in Lebanon in the past day as Israel targets Hezbollah in the capital Beirut, a UN spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned the situation in Lebanon is extremely dangerous and that the entire region could slip further into an \u201cabsolute spiral of violence\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation poses a serious threat to stability in the region, and the stability of Lebanon, and this never serves the security and interests of Israel,\u201d Baerbock wrote on X.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement where it strongly condemns Israel\u2019s killing of Nasrallah and calls on Israel to stop hostilities in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis forceful action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the UN General Assembly he is concerned \u201cby the now almost commonplace practice of political killings\u201d<\/p>\n
